NOKIA 9500 COMMUNICATOR-Problems and Possible Solutions [Nokia 9500 Communicator QWERTY - 111586]

The following are a set of problems that I think all current and potential Nokia 9500 Communicator buyers/users should be aware of. These problems have been confirmed by myself and many other experienced owners and users of this device.I do like this device so much but I must admit after using the previous Nokia 9210 and 9210i, I am surprised with the number of problems and concerns that we the users of this phone are having after almost a year long waiting time for the release. I guess Nokia have not been doing their homework properly. Well lets hope that they learn something. 1_>Dead Pixels appearing on the internal LCD screen of the Communicator-With the exception of all those that are visibly dead, other damaged pixels can be detected using a number of free Symbian utilities available on the internet. I consider this to be a serious problem because when playing a movie or viewing a picture etc... depending on colours displayed, such pixels will be visible and may also potentially spread to other areas of the screen. 2_>Charging and Incorrect Battery Level Problems-This is common to almost all Nokia 9500 Communicators and I think until Nokia releases a firmware upgrade or another solution to resolve it, we all have to put up with it.Very creative solutions are offered by some forum users and other but I don't think they will work. For once, customers should not be having this problem at all but it is unfortunate that we also have to worry about it. 3_>Inability to Reboot the Nokia 9500 Communicator-There is a free solution to this problem. Simply download and install the following application and you will no longer have to remove the back cover and the battery (and possibly damage your phone) in order to reboot your device. There is another solution available within the Communicator but this is the best and simple solution. Link to Download Rebooter V1.1 is http://www.romankeller.ch/myDownloads/downloader.php?id=00000000002&skip=1 4_>Slow and non-responding Nokia Phone Browser Problems-Download and install the latest Version (V6.41.6) of Nokia Data Suite from the Nokia site and most of your problems about this and other problems relating to the phone connection will be solved. If not, check your Operating System setting in Windows (in WinXP I don''t have any problems at all). 5_>Wireless-LAN Problems-I think you should read the relevant Nokia Manual and other technical guides and I assure you most of your problems will be solved. Don't forget this is only a phone not a PC. I have tried this phone with Netgear and Linksys Wireless routers and it works perfectly. I think Nokia have done as good as they should have in their implementation of WiFi. 6_>Battery Consumption when using WiFi- I can confirm that when the Nokia 9500 is used on a Wireless network, the battery charge does not last long. WiFi on this device is very power demanding. 7_>Case Latch Problem- Having used 4 Nokia 9500 Communicators all for different periods, I think regardless of whether you end up with one that has the latch problem or not sooner or later you will have this problem. I do agree that this is a problem and Nokia should have been a little more smarter when designing and producing the locking mechanism for the device. I don't think it is a reason to ask for a replacement but opinions vary, so make your own mind up. 8_>Slow Menu Responses-This problem or condition is common to all Nokia 9500 Communicators. Have tried four Communicators and all ha

1.Dead Pixels problem I agree with this one. I once received a Nokia 9500 with some dead pixels. Luckily expansys replaced it. 7_>Case Latch Problem I also agree with you. On the first 3 communicators I received and sent back, they all had very loose latch cases. When I received the 4th one, it was very strong and hard to open (I prefered it this way) but now its getting loose. Nokia should have used the magnet like what they did on the Nokia 9300. 9_>Bluetooth Deactivates when phone switched Off Its meant to do this but I dont know why. When you turn off the phone, you kill the phone and bluetooth signals.

I suggest you do a full backup and then format the phone. When the Nokia hands are showing, you neet to press CTRL, SHIFT AND the 'F' key at the same time. This will reset your phone to factory state.
5 - Would appreciate any info to help resolve a Wi-Fi issue on my 9500. It worked fine via my Belkin AP until I re-formatted the Communicator to correct a Sync problem. Since then, it says it is connected to the WLAN but cannot seem to reach any destination on the web - (www, POP3, Messenger server etc.) Have re-started the WLAN and tested with PC - have not made any changes to settings but the Communicator, wont Communicate! Nokia support was useless - they cannot figure out what is wrong. Lastly, I did manage to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot in an hotel yesterday - so something strange is goin on - any suggestions?? Martin
I am replying to my own post as I have now solved the problem: If the 9500 cannot comunicate via WLAN but is getting a connection - do the following: 1 - set up a new Internet Access Point in control panel 2 - use the SSID (WLAN Name) to identify the network 3 - set 'Automatic IP address' to NO (Advanced Settings) 4 - give the device an IP address from the range being used on that network 5 - set 'Automatic DNS' to NO 6 - enter a pair of DNS server IP addresses (from your ISP) 7 - back up the phone settings so you never have to do this again!! Realplayer for streaming over the internet (e.g. BBC news) is a problem widely reported, as well. One issue might be RealPlayer formats, which change all the time. The Player in the phone was probably outdated even before the thing was released to the public.

hello peeps I have this problem of failure to reboot my nokia 9500. I tried installing an older version of agile messenger on it and it gave me an error message then i removed the batteries to restart it and it has since failed to reboot as the rebooting line goes 1/4 d way and restarts it booting all over again. Solution to this would be highly appreciated.
