TMC - subscription feeds [Destinator PN Pocket PC GPS Software CD - 123881]

The TMC links on this site point to pages which say that there are "Free or low-cost services right across Europe". However, the pages about the UK service say there are two TMC services live - ITIS and Trafficmaster - both of which are commercial. * What feeds does Destinator accept/decode? * Does this include the ITIS/Trafficmaster feeds? If so, how does licensing/subscription work? * If free-to-air feeds only, how good are they? * If Destinator does not accept/decode ITIS feeds, can anyone please suggest an alternative package? Thanks!

Hi Chris, Sorry it is a bit ambiguous on the site - I struggled to get the right info, and tried to make it generic across country sites. However, I can say that using Destinator PN and a TMC GPS receiver in the UK (I have tested both the GNS 5048 and the Royaltek RTG-1001), I can accept ITIS feeds without a problem, and of course, free of charge. My understanding is that Navteq have paid a license fee to ITIS for the service, and of course Destinator is using Navteq. The feed is pretty good, but patchy outside of 'busy' traffic areas and typical RDS service traffic update periods. I regularly make the trip from my home in Norwich to our Manchester office. I sem to only start getting feeds around the Coventry/Birmingham area. However, that is when they are most needed!! I have found a problem that I do need to report to Destinator. There is an 'auto avoidance' TMC setting in Destinator. This works ok, and will recalculate your route according to the TMC info received. However, if you de-select it still recalculates. Regards, Mike
Thanks, Mike, exactly what I needed to know - thanks for your prompt reply! I'll place my order for the GNS & Destinator in the next few minutes!
